A trip to Chiang Rai Province cannot be complete without having seen the Golden Triangle. This famous border town where Thailand, Laos and Burma meet on the Mekong River was once known as the center for the cultivation and sorting of opium. Located about 9 kilometers north of the old city of Chiang Saen, along the road parallel to the river, the Ruak River and the Mekong River meet here and are locally known as "Sop Ruak". Within this area there are remains and ruins of ancient structures, attesting to the fact that the area was colonized in the past. Here the various legends tell that the ancestors of the Lanna Kingdom originate. If the time available is sufficient, boats can be rented to see the Golden Triangle scenery or go down to Chiang Khong. The journey to Chiang Khong should last approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, depending on the currents of the river and the water level. The Rental is not included in the Listing. Mae Sai. Mae Sai is about 62 kilometers from the city and is the most northern district of Thailand. The border between Mae Sai and Tha Khi Lek in the Mynamar is marked by the Mae Sai river with a bridge connecting the two shores. Foreign visitors are allowed to pass beyond the Tha Khi Lek Market by presenting their passports and paying the tax to the Burmese Border Police. Built with a unique style, colored white that symbolizes the purity of Buddha and decorated with glass that refers to the teachings and the vision of Buddha Chiang Mai Silver Temple, (its real name is Wat Sri Suphan), is one of the curiosities of the city. Located in the Wualai district, the traditional silver district of Chiang Mai, it is known for its silver ubosot (order room). Wat Sri Suphan was originally built around 1500 as the main temple for the silver workers' village. From time to time, parts of the temple were repaired with silver.
