Snapshot

  • Lindos: This city is known for its clifftop acropolis, which features 4th-century gates and reliefs from about 280 B.C. The Temple of Athena Lindia sits above an earlier temple, and on the site’s lower level is the 14th-century Castle of the Knights of St. John. Among the town’s whitewashed buildings, the Virgin Mary of Lindos Church contains 15th-century frescoes.

  • Acropolis of Rhodes: One of the finest examples of Hellenic architecture that blends harmoniously with the surrounding environment.

  • Butterfly Valley: A unique nature reserve, the Butterfly Valley (in Greek “Petaloúdes”) is the site of the only natural forest of Oriental Sweetgum trees in Europe, and a resting point for the Jersey tiger-moth.

Day 2
Rhodes – Butterflies – Chalki Island (75 km – 3 hours)
Wake up and start your day with breakfast at the hotel (included). Variety is the name of the game on this vastly contrasted excursion (included). Get back in touch with nature at a renowned nature reserve before visiting the completely unspoilt and sleepy island of Chalki. Begin with a morning journey to Rhodes’s fertile interior, specifically to the ecological sanctuary that is Butterfly Valley. In this renowned reserve, walk under the canopy of the forest, alongside waterfalls and ponds rich in wildlife. From mid-June to mid-September, it is home to hundreds of thousands of Callimorpha butterflies, attracted by the resin of its storax trees. They make for quite the spectacle. Afterwards, it’s back to the coast where you’ll board your boat to Chalki (included). This quiet island has pretty houses scattered around the harbour where small fishing boats are moored. Take a walk around enjoying this idyllic location and get a feel for traditional Greek island life. There’ll also be time for a refreshing afternoon swim in Chalki’s crystal-clear waters. At the end of the visit, transfer back to the hotel. Overnight in Rhodes.
Day 3
Rhodes
After breakfast at the hotel (included), you can either enjoy a free day of leisure or book an optional excursion: Tastes and Traditions of Rhodes (optional, not included). On this optional trip, you’ll get to explore the villages of inland Rhodes and sample some of the island’s most typical dishes. Pretty churches, an olive oil mill and a winery are all on the menu. A day that’ll satisfy both your cultural curiosity and your taste buds. Overnight in Rhodes.
Day 4
Lindos & City Tour (50 km – 1 hour)
First thing in the morning, charge your batteries with hotel breakfast (included). Few islands in Greece can match the heritage of Rhodes, and this wealth forms the centrepiece of this tour (included). Today you’ll go see Lindos and the Rhodes Acropolis, as well as the Castle of the Grand Masters. Kick-off with a guided visit to the hillside town of Lindos. Savour the atmosphere of its winding cobbled streets, lined with whitewashed houses and boutiques, and take in the views of St Paul’s Bay far below. At the top of the mountain is the Acropolis, home to the Temple of Athena. Then it’s off to the Acropolis of Rhodes, also known as Monte Smith. Not only will your local guide tell you all about the local myths and legends, but a provided iPad will help bring the ancient monument to life. Heading to Rhodes’ old town, you’ll explore the vast mediaeval Castle of the Grand Masters and stroll along the cobbled Street of the Knights –a journey back to the Middle Ages. At the end of the visit, transfer back to the hotel. Overnight in Rhodes.
Day 5
Rhodes
Wake up to a leisurely breakfast at the hotel (included) before enjoying a full day all to yourself. Today you get to spend your time as you please and explore whichever part of the island most piques your curiosity, be it in the city itself or farther afield. You choose the routes, the restaurants, and the tours. In short, you set the rhythm. Overnight in Rhodes.
