Job Description

As a Back Office Accounting, you will assist the agency manager/owner in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial/accounting management in the sales functions. You will have frequent interaction with the manager/owner and sales agents. You will supervise general accounting and general ledger functions and related agent transactions. Responsible for all general ledger functions including the review of monthly journal entries, account analysis and general ledger account and bank reconciliations, and the procurement of store business licenses and permits. The accounting supervisor is also responsible for the review of final general ledger reports and the preparation of the company’s internal financial statements and payroll.

General Ledger and Financial Reporting

  • Supervises the general ledger processing and monthly close to ensure the closing schedule is adhered to.
  • Ensures journal entries are properly supported, documented and authorized, recorded in the proper period and are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company policy.
  • Also maintains control over journal vouchers, correction of errors, maintenance of general ledger, and the preparation and distribution of financial reports.
  • Supervises the preparation and review of internal financial reporting including the ARC Report, Agent Activity Reports, Client Balance Reports, Payroll, and other manual or general ledger reports.
  • Review and monitor all general ledger and all bank reconciliations on a regular basis to ensure accuracy, timeliness and adherence to GAAP, ARC, and company policies.
  • Review reconciling items for appropriateness and ensure that all needed adjustments are recorded.
  • Maintain communication with company personnel to facilitate information between accounting and operations and to ensure understanding and control of accounting issues and/or transactions.
  • Establish internal control procedures and ensure compliance to maintain integrity of data.

Sales and Use Tax

  • Responsible for the timely preparation, filing and payment for all sales and use tax returns.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with governing state, city and local laws.
  • Responsible for and facilitates state audits associated with the sales and use tax returns, and coordinates with the agency manager/directors as appropriate

Other Duties

  • Directs the preparation and review of general accounting supporting documentation for the budget preparation process.
  • Develop methods to improve the quality and accuracy of the information submitted.
  • Coordinates the preparation and review of general accounting work papers related to quarterly and annual examinations of financial statements by the manager/owner.
  • Directs the preparation and review of general accounting work papers required for the company’s corporate tax provision and return.
  • Responsible for the timely renewal of business licenses and permits for the agency. A positive, “whatever it takes” attitude will ensure your success in this role.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • 3+ years of significant accounting experience, including supervision with a minimum of a 2 year/Associate’s degree.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Good typing speed, knowledge of data entry systems and internet.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic and customer service oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task. Detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of TRAMS/ANY AUTOMATED Travel Agency Backoffice Software is a plus
  • Knowledge of India Tax Policies is a plus
  • Fluency in hindi language is a plus.
